Degree: BA Health and Human Physiology (Health Promotion)

Year: May 2019

I graduated in the Spring of 2019 with my B.A. in Health & Human Physiology (Health Promotion). I currently work in Des Moines as a Health Educator with Planned Parenthood North Central States, which also includes Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa. The Health Promotion undergraduate program is perfectly blended with evidenced-based curriculum, as well as hands-on learning opportunities. This coursework provided me with the analytical, interpersonal, and instructional skills necessary to enter the workforce confident enough to start immediately making an impact on my community and the world around me.

My advice to current undergraduate students is to network as much as possible and to explore interests outside of your comfort zone. During my last year of undergrad, I made an impulsive decision to enroll in the College Health Education Practicum, and it changed my life. Through the practicum I realized how important sexual health and wellness is to me. Without exploring what the practicum had to offer, I wouldn’t be in the wonderful career field that I am today. The HHP department is filled with amazing instructors, peers, and faculty who are there to offer long-lasting support to you, even after graduation.
