BA Health and Human Physiology (Health Promotion)

Year: May 2018

I am currently working for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Veterans Service Representative. I ensure that the VA meets its duty assisting veterans who have had active service and are entitled to compensation for their disabilities or injuries. My HHP curricula gave me a well-rounded education on health, whether it be health promotion, communication, coaching, or anatomy, which has allowed me to work in various sectors.

My favorite courses were Health Behavior and Health Promotion and Health Management and Administration.  If I had to give advice to current students, I would tell them to connect, connect, connect and make yourself available for all opportunities.  Do not limit yourself to what you think is your field of specialty.

As of April 2022, I graduated with a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Healthcare Organization and Policy with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health Policy and Leadership from University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). During my time as a graduate student, I had the pleasure of being the treasurer and member of the Maternal and Child Health Student Association and the Global Health Intern for the UAB School of Nursing PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center. My BA in Health and Human Physiology got me to where I am today, and I am proud to be a Hawkeye.
