The Moving Through Cancer Taskforce, an initiative led by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), was recognized by the White House for its efforts in promoting exercise as a key component of cancer treatment and recovery. Among the members of the taskforce contributing to this important work is Jess Gorzelitz, assistant professor in the Department of Health and Human Physiology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
The Moving Through Cancer Taskforce aims to integrate evidence-based exercise and physical activity into cancer care to improve patient outcomes and overall well-being. Research has shown that exercise can help manage cancer-related symptoms, enhance quality of life, and even improve survival rates, making it an essential part of comprehensive care.
This recognition highlights the growing emphasis on policies and programs that support exercise and physical activity for patients undergoing cancer treatment. As awareness increases, initiatives like Moving Through Cancer continue to pave the way for greater accessibility to exercise-based interventions in oncology settings.
